Jeffrey A. Hakala, CFA, CPA

Senior Partner, Chief Investment Officer
Jeffrey is a founding member of Clarkston Capital Partners and leads the firm’s Investment Committee. With over fifteen years’ experience in portfolio management, investment research, financial reporting and accounting, he brings a wide range of expertise to CCP’s security analysis and selection activities. Prior to forming the firm he served as a portfolio manager at Seger-Elvekrog, as a member of the Audit and Advisory Services Group at Arthur Andersen, LLP, and as a portfolio manager with Investment Counsel, Inc.
Jeffrey earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Finance and Accounting, both from Michigan State University. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is an acting member of the CFA Institute and the AICPA. Mr. Hakala serves as a Director of Wright & Filippis. He currently is engaged with Walsh College in Troy, MI, as an associate adjunct professor for studies in financial statement analysis and as a seminar leader.
Jerry W. Hakala, CFA

Senior Partner and Director of Research and Trading
Jerry is a founding member of Clarkston Capital Partners and serves on the firm’s Investment Committee. As Director of Research, he is responsible for managing the firm’s proprietary research function and for overseeing the execution of the firm’s investment philosophy. Jerry brings more than fifteen years’ experience in portfolio management, investment research, financial analysis, and reporting to CCP.
Prior to founding the firm, Jerry held accounting and finance positions at Ford Motor Company and worked with his brother as a portfolio manager with Investment Counsel, Inc. He received a Bachelor in Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Business Administration degree with a focus on Finance and Accounting from Michigan State University, and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2006. Jerry is a member of the CFA Institute and the Detroit Society of Financial Analysts.
Jeremy J. Modell

Managing Partner
Jeremy is the Managing Partner of Clarkston Capital Partners and serves on the Firm’s Investment Committee. Mr. Modell has more than 17 years of investment experience in portfolio management and investment research. He most recently spent ten years at R.H. Bluestein & Company, as Managing Director and Portfolio Manager of the company. Responsibilities included portfolio management, equity and fixed income research, business development, and trading. Prior to R.H. Bluestein, Mr. Modell served as Vice President at Smith Barney Inc. In addition, Mr. Modell worked as a credit analyst for Time Square Capital Management in New York City.
Mr. Modell serves on the Board of the Karmanos Cancer Partners, Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, and Franklin Hills Country Club. Mr. Modell graduated with a B.A. in Business Economics from Brown University and a M.B.A. in Finance from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

Cheryl A. Kassab

Investor Management and Relations
Cheryl joined the firm in early 2009 and manages Clarkston Capital Partners individual and Institutional investment relationships. Cheryl brings more than 10 years of experience in customer relationship management and business development. Her background and experience in the financial industry includes investment management and commercial lending at a New York money center institution.
Cheryl recently completed her Certified Financial Planner (CFP) coursework and is sitting for the CFP exam. She also earned a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Business Administration from the University of Colorado, Leeds School of Business.

Partner and Chief Compliance Officer
Sam brings a breadth of financial advisory experience in corporate banking, wealth management services, investor real estate, treasury management, and loan operations to Clarkston Capital Partners. Prior to joining the firm, Sam served as President and CEO of National City Bank's SE Michigan and NW Ohio markets. His background includes corporate and retail banking, executive leadership, sales management, and strategic development, and brings to the firm experience with fiscal accountability, relationship management and revenue generation. Sam provides counsel and leadership to the Community Bank industry as a founding director and organizer of the Waterford Bancorp and its subsidiary bank, Waterford Bank, in Toledo, Ohio, and provides independent coaching and counsel to Community Bank CEOs.
Deborah S. Forbes

Director of Operations
Deborah joined Clarkston Capital Partners in 2011 as the Director of Operations, where she leads the back office team. Ms. Forbes spent 20 years at Munder Capital Management, where she supported the Executive Team, Client Service, Portfolio Management, Operations and IT in various facets. She also served as the firm’s Corporate Trainer, specializing in Microsoft Office® products and Satuit, the firm’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) system. In addition, she served as Munder”s primary internal architect in implementing its CRM system.
Deborah has nearly 30 years of experience in the investment industry, encompassing a wide range of responsibilities. She began her career at Loomis Sayles as an administrator in 1982. Debbi attended Eastern Michigan University, is Series 7-licensed and teaches adult education on Microsoft Office products.

Reporting and Information Technology
Phil joined the firm in 2009 and plays a key role in portfolio reporting, performance measurement and information technology. His responsibilities include tracking portfolio and composite performance, maintaining GIPS standards, GIPS verification and planning and executing Clarkston's technology strategy.
Phil graduated from Wabash College in 2002 with a degree in Philosophy, and has gained experience working as a consultant with Volkswagen Credit, in retail bank management with Comerica Bank, and as a surety bond agent and financial underwriter for a large privately owned Michigan insurance agency. He is currently pursuing his MBA at Walsh College. |
